stogy3
What is a good replacement spark plug to use on a totaly stock 2002 banshee and what gap. Also what is a good premix to use in the fuel? What octane and mix ratio should I use? Thanx
Big Blue
i use b8es i dont remember the gap, premix is personal preference as for ratios it depends on the oil most are 32:1 or 40:1, i use amsoil 100:1 mixed at 80:1.
Ducman
B8ES or BR8ES and I think .030 They usually come gaped about right uless you drop them on the shop floor as you take them out of the box. Yamalube 2R works fine and about 32:1 If you want to spend a little more Maxima Castor 927 is good stuff and smells sweet, use at 40:
stogy3
why is the 927 such a different ratio? Is it a better lubricator, thicker, thinner? What is the diff. on those plugs? Better for stock? Thanks a lot for the info!!!!!!!!!
Ducman
The R in BR8ES is for resistor which makes the plug create less EM interference for radio/TV signals. They run the same, those are the stock recommended plug. The two oil ratios really aren't all that different. I believe the 927 has a little higher film strength, (sticks to stuff better). Some other Oils like amsol are formulated even more concentrated to mix at even higher ratios but when it goes through the motor it produces more or less the same lubricating effect, same amount of oil film remaining on cylinder walls, bearings ect. .
go with a good plug like a br8eg or ev I think it is. Unless you can find the non screw off top b8es or Br8es....I've had so many tops spin off of my sparkplugs I'll never run a removable top plug again. I stripped one out riding once....it actually stripped the thread from the vibration.....luckily I could flip it over and screw it on a little bit to make it back to camp cause I didnt have my extra plugs like I usually do with me. Holyman
Yeah there are millions of oils and millions of ratios for those oils. I run 100:1 at 80:1 and have abused my banshee in scorching heat and subzero weather with no negative effects. It's also VERY affordable. Email me if you want ot try some... baldwinville
br8es is the stock plug. br9es is a colder burning pulg and works well if you have mods and an over heating problem. as for oil i have had my shee since 2000. its an 01 and i have ran nothing but yamalube at 40:1. i ust popped my head for a milled on and i can still see the cross hatches in the hon from the factory. i rum the highest octane pump gas you can get. anything over 91 octane is fine unless you have really high compression from small domes on a cool head
nasty01banshee
i'm pretty sure 2002 is when yamaha went with the newer ignition that requires the BR8ES plugs(resistor type) i have a 2001 and in a pinch will use the B8ES plugs, but will always try to pickup the R's if in stock...
