XTShee
Any of you guys in to any downhilling? I just picked this bike up last week and am looking to get in to it. Been out a couple of times so far and it seems pretty fun. Any tips for a newbie?
ledofthezep
Good look'n bike. What did you give for it & where from? I'd love to get back into biking, I used to be real big into freestyle BMX, did a lot of flat-land shizzle. My body can't take what I used to put it through on when I was younger, I've been kicking around the idea of getting a good mountain bike, similar to yours(I'm partial to GT)...and get myself back into shape. But I don't have the money right now, nor will I anytime real soon, so I dunno. As far as suggestions...get out there & ride, get comfortable with the bike. Similar to when you 1st got your banshee, don't go out & hurt yourself thinking you're a better rider than what you are. Practice makes perfect. XTShee
Led I picked it up form a local shop, cost me 3.5k NZ down form 5.5 since its an 04 and the new models are due in a few weeks. Having to pedal all the way uphill before you can come down sucks major ass but its all part of it I guess.
J.J.
Nice bike XT, I ride almost everyday, but mostly technical singletrack. My bike is a lightweight hardtail, no big hits for me... I'm getting too old
broke
It looks to be a nice bike. I'm not familiar with the model, but it's pretty much an Amp linked 4 bar which IMO is the best all around rear suspension out there. I had a Specialized FSR team downhill frame with that rear end on it and it worked great. The rear shock looks to be a Fox TC or RC with at least rebound, I don't see the compression dial on the piggy back but it's still a good shock. Marzocchi forks are great, once I tried my first one I never went to any other brands, I had two Z-1's, a Monster T and a Shiver on various bikes. Hayes front and rear with 8" rotors are a part you will never need to upgrade. I think those are Truvative cranks, but does that thing have more than one front gear? I see the front deralier(sp), if you are going to be hitting some pretty nasty terrain, A single fornt with some sort of MRP ish chain guide might be in order. Considering where you're from, you will have great terrain to really abuse that thing. I spent one year racing some of the Norba Nationals in the US and alot of the fast guys were from your neck of the woods. Advice, keep your weight back, learn how to spin good because those bikes will bounce all over the place if you have a sloppy spin. LEARN HOW TO FALL, no joke. XTShee
Man sounds like you know your shit broke, The back shock has rebound and compression adjust along with the front forks. It has two front gears, which I am likeing as I ride it 20km to and from work at the moment, so some of the higer gears come in handy. What do you mean when you say learn how to spin good? I should pick the falling up pretty quick judgeing by the amount of time I have already been over the bars. I hear you on that weight back thing, first time I went out I couldnt get my seat low enough because the stem was to long and I had a lot of trouble getting down the hill. Taken to it with a hacksaw since though and now its a lot nicer to ride. Still having a lot of trouble coming in and out of corners though but like Led said Practice makes perfect

I'm getting too old 281212[/snapback] same here. XC is the way for me. mostly cause we dont have any hills to go down in OK, and i dont think led has any in kansas either. XT whenever the ski runs are dried up in the summer, take your bike up on the lift then ride back down. thats the shiz.
