Banshee/snomobile conversion

Recommended Posts

A guy at work brought me an issue of dirtwheels from '95 or '96 with a kit like that. It showed it going through some decent snow and it operated throughout their day of testing without messing up. I cant tell if it is the same kit but that one sold for like $1200 or so. For around 300 or 400 it is a little more tempting....

I was actually going to put that in my responce, but have no idea how much snowmobiles cost.... I imagine 2500 could score something nice??

A 3 or 4 year old trail sled with 2K or so miles, most likely a 500-800cc 2-stroke. Would beat the pants off just about any Banshee with that conversion kit. Can't blame the guy for trying to recoup his money on the thing though.

Hell yeah!

In case anyone was wondering, there was a company that made these about 10 years or so ago, and they will fit a Raptor, YFZ, and bike with the same bolt pattern. I remember reading about these in dirt wheels when they first came out. They tested them on a Warrior and Banshee. They said they were fun, but there still isnt enough area on the treads to give enough flotation above the snow, so they will still bog down in deeper stuff. Also, most sleds are 500cc 2 strokes and up, a 350 banshee with pipes and a filter probably isn't going to have the same power as a full size sled.

On a side note, I hope that you were mistaken when you said $2k, I only remember this setup costing $1200 new. I personally wouldn't even pay $300 for it. This guy will NEVER get $2k for that setup.

I saw that 95-96 mag, and it always stuck in my head that it would be a cool kit to have. They also did a feature with this kit on the 89 Zilla

I'd pay 4-600 but no more...

2200 is the reserve... I managed to get him to give that up... He claims that the kit was 2500+ and is in mint (under 4hrs use)

Told me that it was best used for hard pack trails. It just sinks when in powder...

Mint cond. rode for 4hrs, spent 2500+ for it and now for sale.... :whistling: Maybe there is a reason for these conversions not popular on the market...

Cool concept, but not worth the 2000 coin IMO..

(Would still buy it for $500 though..)

Hmmm, if I'm really bored tomorrow I'm gonna go and look up that issue, I could sware they were around a G new. But it was sooo many beers, errrr I mean years ago. Either way, a set of 4 snows will run you $200, and get you through some decent stuff.

I would personally love to run this setup and give it a shot, looks like a ton of fun!!! But I think the price is somewhat high.

This winter i put on some studded snows on the front and back of my banshee. It was a total kick riding it where the sleds were coming and going. It was packed ice and you could pull wheelies with the studded snows on. Might try that 1st and see if it gets it out of your system. It did for me, but i couldnt go all the way up the mountain where the snow was to deep. Got to watch your engine temps to when your doing tons of spinning and not as much air moving through the radiator.

Yep...too much money.

My buddy is selling his 98 formula 3 skidoo, triple triple for 1800....and it's a great machine.

I'd ice pick the tires for drag racing on the ice...but, you're not gonna beat a sled for trails, etc...especially when it gets deep!!

I can run my shee through a foot of snow w/ the -2 swingarm and 10 paddle haulers. I can run my shee faster through the tight trails then the sleds can w/ just knobbies on groomed trails....I'm talking tight trails though like under 40mph.... I bet a set of skis on the front of a shee w/ 10 paddle haulers would kick ass....I have 2 extra sets of skis from my sled, maybe I could try it out...I'm selling my sled if anyone is interested....Arctic Cat Firecat F7 w/ the F9ss kit in it....Ohlins suspension and a shit load of mods. 185hp. 6500.00

i live in quebec and here these thing are common but not on banshee lol....youre better with a snowmobile than this...why?these ''laye''like we call them here in Qc ,will make youre banshee engine overheat and you wont go faster than 45 mph....here we have FULL KIT of these...front and rear ''laye''equiped on 4x4,they dont go faster than 50 mph and i dont talk small bore 400cc....kvf 700 are going something like 45-50 mph top speed and their belt and engine take a severe hit by these....they need a LOT of power to advance, you wont be able to travel fast with these and you will alway be near full throtle like the banshee's don't got really power on base and mid, they are HEAVY...something like 60 pound the ''laye'' and a snowmobile is really more funny to ride than a atv with ''laye''If you like you atv type riding just TRY the new yamaha phazer, its like a motocross and a atv mix in a snowmobile, they are really fun to ride, 500cc and 80hp
