verdoneracing Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 I have a set of blue fenders that I want to paint black. without spending 300 bucks does anybody lnow what oaint to use so that it won't wear off. Quote
theeechozen1 Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 You want to use a plastic adhesive promoter, I think I saw em sellin it in spray cans at checker last time i was there, the idea behind it is the paint will stretch before it cracks and chips so if you roll your bike the time you spent making it look purdy wont be wasted. I used this paint in my sprayer hooked up to my compresser and it came very nice and you could beat the piss outta it b4 it started to come off. I bought it at space age, lots of colors to chose from. Quote
dirtclod20 Posted December 20, 2003 Report Posted December 20, 2003 Don't know if this will help but Wal-Mart is now selling plastic spray paint. Not sure how good it is, but it may be worth a try for 10bucks. Quote
MULLET~BOY Posted December 20, 2003 Report Posted December 20, 2003 krylon fusion works great painted my whole plastics black hasn't chipped or scratched yet Quote
dirtclod20 Posted December 20, 2003 Report Posted December 20, 2003 Jetro, did you do anything special to your plastic before you painted it? Did it turn out to be shiney, dull, I wouldn't mind to paint some things. Would you reccommend it. Quote
banshee2sick Posted December 20, 2003 Report Posted December 20, 2003 A tip for using the plastic adhesion promoter: Apply paint over it when its still tacky. If you let it dry completely before you put the paint on, instead of helping adhesion, it forms a hard layer between the plastic and the paint, and actually inhibit adhesion. Quote
illboogie Posted December 20, 2003 Report Posted December 20, 2003 krylon fusion works good i also did mone all black and it hold up fine and i crashed her 2wice so far. just make sure you wetsand with 400 real godd then use a scotch brite pad and go over it with that using water also then make sure its real clean the put like 4 to five light coats on it comes out pretty shiny. i tried to clear coat over it but it made it foggy and dull. LUCKY the LEPRECHAUN Posted December 20, 2003 Report Posted December 20, 2003 The fusion works pretty well, but takes some prep work. Also remember to spray several LIGHT coats, nothing thick. Then let it sit for a few days...I did a set and wasnt real happy, so I got some black factory plastics to use instead, now I like the fusion plastics better- MUCH SHINIER.It seems to take a few days to completely cure. I bet it got shinier after all those beers you drank Do you have access to an air compressor? Quote
LUCKY the LEPRECHAUN Posted December 20, 2003 Report Posted December 20, 2003 No where to plug it in at the end of me rainbow! Dumb Bird......that was a stoopid question. Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted December 20, 2003 Report Posted December 20, 2003 without spending 300 bucks? you could get a set of sweet fullbors for like 500 Quote
BansheeBoy17 Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 I sanded my fenders down really good and then used krylon fusion. Anybody who wants pics PM me... Quote
dirtclod20 Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 I'd love some pics, I only wish I would have thought of this before purchasing 130 bucks worth of plastic for my KTM and at a return cost of 20%, I really don't know what I hope happens. If I return them, I'll will have spent 40 bucks for nothing, maybe the pieces will fit that are cracked on my bike and I can just paint everything so that it matches good. Let me get this right, 400grit, and then wet some steel wool and sand, what number steel wool? Quote
BansheeBoy17 Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 Here ya go ... I will be posting some pics tomorrow in the images forum with my new ITP sand stars on red labels too so look out for those... Quote
illboogie Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 400 grit wetsand, scotchbrite the red one sand it wet with that use alot of water ,the purpose of wetsanding is so debris doesnt build up on the paper and scratch the plastic and then wash it real good Quote
