shee89 Posted September 25, 2011 Report Posted September 25, 2011 went to start it the other day and it wouldnt rev at all. It was running good, rebuilt the carbs 4 weeks ago. Now when i start it and try to give it gas it boggs and puffs air out the exhaust (idk if it would be considered backfiring cause its not a louder pop but big puffs of exhaust. Ive taken the carbs off twice now and cleaned them, checked the reeds, replaced plugs, checked that its getting fuel. The TORS is disconnected and no parking brake. motor was rebuilt recently and has compression. Pretty much stock except a boost bottle. Quote

Larry's Shee Posted September 25, 2011 Report Posted September 25, 2011 Using a banshee flywheel puller pull it off and check the key and stator mounting plate. What do plugs look like? Quote
shee89 Posted September 25, 2011 Author Report Posted September 25, 2011 They were black before I replaced them the new ones are alittle blackened but wipes off to look new again Quote
Infamous039 Posted September 25, 2011 Report Posted September 25, 2011 check your reeds, make sure there not cracked Quote
Jereme6655 Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 rebuilt your carbs huh? did you put the cross-over tube back in place to connect the two carbs choke circuits? Did you take the carbs apart seperately or together......the carbs internals ARE different and are side specific....but they can be put in the wrong carb...just 180* backwards... Quote
shee89 Posted September 26, 2011 Author Report Posted September 26, 2011 Reeds are good and the tube is connected, it ran good after i rebuilt the carbs this just happened. And I took them back apart and cleaned them twice now and they are together correctly. It was running good when I shut it off two days later this Quote
Jereme6655 Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 check your flywheel key then....could have sheared off and be causing a timing issue... Quote
shee89 Posted October 1, 2011 Author Report Posted October 1, 2011 Is there anything that wouldn't come in the carb rebuild kit that could go bad in the carbs? I feel like it's carb related Quote
Jereme6655 Posted October 1, 2011 Report Posted October 1, 2011 other than some seals....which should be in the kit... or a cracked float everything should be in there that is needed and shouldn't go bad. did this problem just randomly show itself or did it happen after you modded or did something to the bike? Quote
shee89 Posted October 1, 2011 Author Report Posted October 1, 2011 Yesterday I did start it and it reved up and I was able to keep it at high rpms and it sounded good but as soon as I let off it went back to not reving Quote
shee89 Posted October 1, 2011 Author Report Posted October 1, 2011 (edited) Any recommendations for replacement carbs? One of the tops is stripped and being held down with zip ties anyway so I may buy some carbs anyway. Edited October 1, 2011 by shee89 Quote
