Hey guys, is there anyone using the elka reat shock linkage if so could you post a pic of what it looks like. Also what is the benefit of it. I was thinking of buying it so any opinions would be great thanks alan

It gives you a little more travel over the stock linkage and coupled up to the elka shock its not to bad but stand alone on its own I doubt you'd even notice the difference between it and the stock one. I think it's one of those deals if you but the complete package you would be happy with it shock and all but if you run it on the standard shock you'd be dissapointed. just my cents worth. :shrugani:

The Elka linkage works by moving where your lower shock mounts. It moves the mounting point "in" toward the motor. This does two things for a stock rear shock. If you're a lighter guy (120-140), it puts more leverage on your shock, making you feel "heavier" on the shock. On the flip side, if you're a heavier rider (200+) it will make your shock feel even softer.

The second thing, is it allows more travel by moving that shock mount in. What limits your travel right now with a completely stock setup, is the travel of the shock. So by moving the pivot point in you get more travel.

If you're not looking to soften up your ride, and give yourself more travel, stick with the stock link. Think about this too... with more down travel, it's harder to pick the back of the bike up and move it if you get stuck on a tight trail or something... ;)

Not a chance in HELL that part is worth what Elka wants for it. I'd put money on it that not one person on here would notice the difference between a stock setup and one with the Elka linkage.

I have to tell you your wrong on this one Bud. Elka's dual linkage and LT Shock make a big of diffrence over an Elka shock on stock linkage. 1 You get more travel it raises the Rear end almost 2". I used to know this stuff alot better but Ill tell you what I know from expirence. Dual link setup takes hard whoops much eayser, Lands alot more efficiant from big air jumps, It takes corners much more efficiantily by griping instead of sliding, stock revalve or Elka stock link you will be sliding your ass end out bigtime around that turn.

All in all its a much better setup. I think the price is ridicules and its really only worth it over a Standerd Elka shock setup if you really care that much about riding atleast a few times a week, smoking your buddies through the woods, or are a competitive Racer.

I have it only because I had plans on racing. If I knew I could only ride as a weekend warroir and have limitations on how hard I push it due to injurys I would have bought a STD Elka Rear. Or mabey just had my stock shock revalved. I also would have never bought Stage 4. You live and you learn I supose.

I need to step in and clear up some mis-information here.

1) The OP was inquiring about running a stock shock with Elka's linkage.

2) The Elka link actually LOWERS the bike when paired with a stock length shock, and does not increase UP travel, but merely DOWN travel. If your bike is sitting 2 inches higher, I would recommend removing the shock, and measuring your eye to eye length, and ensure that it is 367mm.

3) If you were to purchase the two together, I would sell you a 367mm ETE length, VS the stock ~340mm. THAT is where your extra travel comes from.

4) I have been building suspension for MANY years, and I am failing to comprehend how shock linkage would encourage tire grip while cornering with a swingarm style suspension, as there is 0 articulation present. Please elaborate. Perhaps I am misunderstanding.

Also, From jbooker82

I dont see why you would NOT want to increse wheel travel from 8in to 11?

Stock wheel travel is 9.7 inches. The Elka link WITH the Elka shock designed for this link, only increases wheel travel to 11.25 inches, a mere difference of 1.55 inches. Keep in mind that the stated increased wheel travel is WITH the Elka Dual Linkage, and WITH the Elka Long Travel shock designed for this linkage. The Dual Linkage installed in conjunction with a stock shock WILL NOT increase travel. It is physically impossible. Changing the point at which a shock mounts will not make it compress further, or extend any more than it already can on the stock linkage.

I see, I was trying to say it raises the rear suspension Travle almost 2 inches 1.55. when you change the way the shock mounts to the linkage, even if its only by moving it 1 bolt hole closer to the motor. (Like a GT Thunder linkage setup I seen on a quad I couldnt believe that it would make any diffrence it was moved so little that the naked eye could miss.) in Elkas setup it helps the natural action of the shock by useing more internal valveing smoothing out the overall ride than relying more on the spring like a normal setup.

Im pretty sure you can only use the Longer shock with Elkas Dual Banshee linkage.

Sorry if I am wrong in anyway I am very rusty at what I was learning fairly well and Ive been distracted a few times while typing this out.

Clear it up for us Matt.

"the regular rider that doesn't frequent a MX track will never notice an extra 1.55" of shock travel"

this is a pretty acurate statement. For the normal weekend rider switching from stock to Link+Elka shock. Other than that it depends if the rider is very familiar to how their old setup was reacting to the elements..
