You are in the ball park with either ratio. We use a 17/36 (2.12 ratio) for most conditions. It provides our quickest ETs in both 1/8 mile & 1/4 mile with a 20" diameter tire. In order to make any of these ratios work, you need a good clutch tune or a good clutch hand. Consistency wise, my vote is for the clutch tune.
