Interesting looking gas plugs

Couple weeks ago I posted a bike I was fighting jetting on. Got it lined out I thought. Bike runs good and no hesitation. Havnt done a real plug chop yet, just tinkering around with it. So pulled the plugs after an all day ride(5-6gal). Kinda interesting looking, never seen a gas plug look like this. Thoughts??

25 pilots

Airscrews 1 turn out

Toomy needle on 4th from blunt end

280 mains

Only mods are t5s and pod filters.

Hmm. Are you even getting wide open? If so, the fuel is just washin right off the plug. That's a problem. Because with the mods listed, a 280 main on that bike isn't far fetched rich enough to clean off that much. I'd say you may have a possible weak spark situation or worse, the bike has coolant entering the cyl and it's doing the washing. The pilot on that seems like it would be weak as shit as well. Does it caugh or hesitate off the bottom end?

With stock needles it had that lean hesitation. Swapped needles and cleaned up. Had 27.5s in it and it was rich feeling. Rode at the dunes so quite a bit of wot time. Never felt funny or anything. Feels pretty good for a stock bike. Coolant is still as full as began with. Did another leak down and passed nicely.

  • 2 weeks later...

really?  i had bad ass results with "toomey needle"  when the rest of the bike is RIGHT<<<<<<<..   i have ALWAYS had a hesitation with stock needles with a lot of air intake capacity.   sometimes it was very faint  but it was still there...

what you have  pipes and pods. the jetting specs you have sound right on.   plugs look fine to me.   if the air screw turns into a range that works with the 25 pilot it is fine.  use the air screw to determine pilot as long as the needle is right.

i JUST did almost the same setup on a bone stocker.  only thing it had was v4's  i put in 27.5 but also felt it was a tad rich.  it was going to glamis for a week so i wasnt sure if it might lean a tad when it got there.  4th clip on toomey ( best) and a 300 main.  he was going to be running a LOT at wfo so set it a tad rich.   guy was pleased as punch with it the whole trip.   its almost sure you will end up with 280-320 main on a stocker with stock carbs.   determine pilot by what the motor wants.

I got curious and swapped Oem needles in. The dead spot was there again right off idle.. It was a lean sounding dead spot. Didn't mess with pilots which may have had some affect. Air screws all the way in kinda helped a small amount. But I basicly just wanted to see what needle would affect at various clip positions.
